The KDVFD was started in 1940 after the 13 members received civil defence equipment consisting of a Bickle pump unit, coats and other miscellaneous items. Before that, a community volunteer bucket brigade fought all fires in Keremeos.
The department operates from one station in Keremeos and protects the Village of Keremeos and rural Keremeos, Cawston and Olalla communities.
Today, the role of the KDVFD has expanded to include firefighting, rescue operations and emergency medical first response. Member training has become more rigorous and comprehensive as a result.
The KDVFD prides itself on being a well-trained and well-equipped emergency service.
All pump/tank measurements are in Imperial gallons.
